Krakatoa: The Last Days

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

A ringside seat at one of history’s deadliest natural disasters.

With a budget of £2.3 million, Krakatoa is minute-for-minute, one of the most expensive specialist factual programmes the BBC has ever produced. Krakatoa – The Last Days is approximately 75% drama, 25% documentary.

The eruption of Krakatoa was heard over 5,000 miles away and released so many gases into the atmosphere that it altered the world’s temperature for five years. With 10.1 million viewers, Krakatoa – The Last Days was the highest-ever rating history programme ever shown by the BBC.

This terrifying and emotive blockbuster interweaves multiple sources – including personal stories, photographs, newspaper articles and the latest scientific research – in a truly devastating reconstruction of what is considered by many to be the world’s first global media event.
