EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS
1. Too Close For Comfort
Jo learns in the most unexpected way that Rod’s wife has left him.
He invites himself around for dinner, expecting his ever-efficient PA
to help out in every conceivable crisis. Rod is not totally useless as
he remembers to bring a present around for Sam – only it is not
quite what Sam is expecting. Back in the office, Maxine is in a panic
as her husband is paying a visit and she’s paranoid that he may
suspect her affair with Simon. To avoid detection, Maxine and Simon come
up with a novel ruse to pull the wool over her husband’s eyes. Later,
Cheryl spots Rod leaving Jo’s house late at night and comes to the
obvious (but wrong) conclusion. Her e-mail is soon buzzing.
2. Old Bangers
Jo finds herself on the receiving end of Cheryl’s gossiping when
Rod gives her a lift to work. Rod is so paranoid that someone will think
he’s having an affair with his PA, he drops her outside work so
that nobody will get the wrong idea. Naturally, this plan totally misfires
as Cheryl spots Jo getting out of the car and jumps to the obvious conclusion.
When Jo is confronted with the rumour she strenuously denies it and inadvertently
throws suspicion on Simon and Maxine. Simon’s equally strenuous
denial leads him into serious trouble with Maxine. Meanwhile, Jo asks
Rod to help her buy a car and an already complicated situation becomes
even more embarrassing.
3. Work Experience
Jo takes daughter Sam with her to the office as her school has been flooded.
Maxine, of course, loathes children and tries to bully Rod into telling
Jo to take Sam home. Luckily she has to go out, so Rod lets her think
they have left. Simon tells Jo that Maxine has been unwell in the mornings.
That and other ‘symptoms’ lead Jo to the conclusion that
Maxine is pregnant. While Jo is trying to convince Simon that he’ll
be a great father, Cheryl gets the wrong end of the stick yet again. She
thinks Jo is pregant by Simon! Meanwhile, who is going to solve the problem
with the Bubble Gun?
4. Moving On
Rod has a meeting with the company lawyer, who has a personal hygiene
problem. Jo tells Rod that he should be the one to break the news to him.
Meanwhile, unbeknown to Maxine, Simon is trying to find another job. His
efforts make Jo think twice about whether or not Rod really appreciates
her. However, after a stint with Cheryl acting as his PA, it’s not
long before Rod is begging his faithful secretary to return.
5. The Violin Lesson
Rod’s loud opinions about the French are brought to an abrupt halt
as he is introduced to some European clients. Jo is annoyed when Rod gives
Sam a violin. She is hoping it is just a fad because Sam’s violin
playing is awful. Cheryl, as usual, is getting things wrong. She tells
Simon about Maxine’s "secret lover". Simon is secretly
smug, until he finds out it may not be him Cheryl is talking about, prompting
him to a radical change of style which shocks everyone.
6. Lucky In Love
Jo joins a dating agency. Sam enjoys viewing the tapes of prospective
dates with her mum, but she’s not so sure she really wants to share
her with a man. Rod finally plucks up the courage to leave his wife after
she claims to be allergic to him, but he doesn’t seem to be handling
his new-found bachelor status very well. Simon and Maxine have the mother
and father of all arguments and Maxine really gets up Simon’s nose.
