TALES FROM THE PALACES

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Britain’s historic Royal Palaces have been the backdrop to a bloody struggle for power that spanned many centuries. They were home to some of the most feared monarchs the British Isles have ever seen – from William the Conqueror and Henry VIII to Elizabeth I and Queen
Victoria. Now the UK’s leading historical restoration team are working to preserve these places for future generations. With unprecedented, unrestricted access to all aspects of these celebrated buildings, this series follows the team as they unravel the lives of kings, queens, conquerors and rebels.

This group of master refurbishers are responsible for all the artefacts, decorations and fabrics of Britain’s historic Royal Palaces. Discover mysterious marks from the time of the Salem witch trials hidden in the roof of Kew Palace and the tangible remains of ‘the madness of King George’. Follow the extraordinary efforts to recreate a complete Tudor feast and the painstaking, delicate reparations of Princess Diana’s dresses for an exhibition by renowned photographer Mario Testino.

Engaging, passionate and often funny, this series goes behind the scenes, into the hidden corners never seen before by the public. Anchored in human stories past and present, this is the perfect chance to enter a world of lavish beauty and stunning architecture, of dedication and tradition, and to journey, unrestricted, down the secret corridors of power to see history being made.
