EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS SERIES SERIES 1 1. Tom Lattimer is a hard-working GP who finds himself in the process of a divorce. He also finds his father, Toby, in the process of divorce as well and on the verge of moving in with Tom. (1) 2. Toby is proving to be a difficult flat mate for Tom. When Tom's mother comes round for drinks and imbibes too much, Tom offers her Toby's bed for the evening, which sets up a most embarrassing situation. (2) 3. Tom is working hard to reunite his parents. He is appalled when Toby brings his attractive young receptionist, Madeline, home after an evening out at Covent Garden. (3) 4. Toby has bought a new Rolls-Royce that he lends Tom when Tom's mini is stolen. But the Latimer men are about to be without transportation as the Rolls is stolen as well. (4) 5. Tom's suggestion to Toby for a temporary receptionist is not well received. Toby appears on television to talk about private practice and manages to offend everyone with his attitude. (5) 6. When Toby stays out all night long, Tom surmises that he as spent the night with a woman. In fact, Toby had been in hospital working with a colleague who had just suffered a heart attack. (6) 7. Tom's plans for his parents' reconciliation seem on course when Toby invites Angela away for a romantic weekend. But Angela storms home when she learns who sponsored the weekend. (7)
SERIES 2 2. Toby and Tom squabble incessantly over domestic trivia. Tom decides that he can no longer have his father as a flat mate, but Toby thinks otherwise. (9) 3. Toby and Tom are both having some troubles with their respective practices. Tom is also having problems with the landlord of his surgery, who happens to be his ex-wife. (10) 4. Receptionist problems are the theme of the week. Toby threatens to sack Madeline when he learns that she is still seeing Tom. (11) 5. Toby and Tom disagree constantly on the private and National Health systems. But Tom must concede that knowing the right people is a decided advantage. (12) 6. Toby resolves to return to his estranged wife, Angela. Tom is delighted, but are Toby's reasons for this reconciliation strictly honorable? (13)
SERIES 3 2. Through a mix-up, Toby has missed his cruise with Angela and decides to keep a low profile. The profile he assumes is not low enough for Tom's liking. (15) 3. Toby is looking forward to seeing Angela after her cruise, and Tom is looking forward to returning Wodehouse to her since they are not allowed does in the flat. But surprises abound. (16) 4. Toby is worried that his separation from Angela might impede his nomination for a much-coveted award. Tom, meanwhile, is worried that he and his partner will need a new receptionist. (17) 5. Madeline has found someone else, and Tom is feeling pretty low. His bank balance is in a similar state. Toby makes an attempt to boost Tom's morale. (18) 6. Tom continues in a state of despair over his break up with Madeline. Toby has to deal with his own share of nightmares. (19) 7. The relative domestic harmony at Tom's flat is threatened by Toby's forgetfulness and the arrival of a third party. Tom reluctantly must give his father his marching orders. (20)
SERIES 4 2. Toby's luxury room at the hotel cannot compensate for his loneliness. This motivates Tom to try even harder to reunite his father and mother. (22) 3. Toby and Tom are at one another's throats after sharing close quarters in Toby's hotel room. However, they forget their differences upon uniting against a common foe. (23) 4. Toby and Tom are now sharing Toby's elegant new flat. This forced accommodation has both of them thinking hard about Toby getting back together with Angela. (24) 5. Tom has the opportunity to buy his old flat at a bargain rate. It sounds good until Tom begins to encounter the problems associated with the purchase of property. (25) 6. Angela is beginning to reflect on the implications of Toby being alone in his new flat. Thanks to an old film and an old friend, there are surprises around the corner for all concerned. (26)
SERIES 5 2. Toby and Angela's reconciliation is going well while Tom and Madeline are making plans for their wedding. But there are complications dead ahead. (28) 3. Toby, oblivious as usual, has encountered receptionist problems at Harley Street. These are not totally unconnected with Tom. (29) 4. Toby has discovered that Angela has developed a wide range of new interests during the period of their separation. But they unite in joy at Tom's and Madeline's wedding. (30) 5. A special occasion calls for special arrangements and lots of careful planning. But even the best laid plans can go disastrously astray. (31) 6. Events serve to remind Tom of the great differences between the NHS and private practice. A sudden change in Toby's life has surprising repercussions. (32) 7. Toby's decision to reduce his work time on Harley Street has a direct affect on both Angela and Tom. But there is an obvious solution only 20 minutes away. (33)
SERIES 6 2. Toby and Tom go round one another's backs in their practices. Toby creates a fire storm when he suggests to Tom's ex-wife that she give Tom a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their former house. (35) 3. Tom bumps into an old friend, which leads to the possibility of his boosting his NHS salary. Toby, meanwhile, is maneuvering to gain himself a knighthood. (36) 4. Tom and Madeline are moving from their flat into a new house. Toby is about to find out why it is a good idea to back up files of important documents. (37) 5. Tom and Madeline are temporarily sharing quarters with his parents while their central heating system is being installed. How will these vegetarians cope with "the cutlets crowd"? (38) 6. Toby is suffering from bursitis and is being driven to distraction by his secretary. Tom is extremely nervous as Madeline is five days overdue on giving birth. (39)
