(2m) TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN - The TARDIS rematerializes in the future on the planet Telos where the time travelers come across an Earth archaeological expedition financed by a strange couple named Kaftan and Klieg. They are excavating a tomb where the last Cybermen were rumored to have been buried when their planet, Mondas, was destroyed. But the Cybermen are revived by a rise in the temperature engineered by the deranged Klieg. The party escapes from the tomb, but the Cybermem retaliate by sending after them the Cybermats - little metallic creatures trained to attack. The Doctor neutralizes them and freezes the Cybermen to inactivity again.

(2t) THE DOMINATOR - The TARDIS rematerializes with the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe on the planet Dulkis, now taken over by the alien Dominators and their deadly robot servants, the Quarks. The Dulcians are pacifists and cannot retaliate. They ignore the Doctor's warning and some of them are captured. Doctor Who discovers the Dominator's plan: fire rockets down bore holes of the massive drilling operation, causing an eruption of the molten core of the planet. They will then drop an atomic seed capsule down a bore hole, turning Dulkis into a radioactive mass, fuel for the Dominator's space fleet! Jamie and Cully, the rebellious son of the Dulcian leader, try to retaliate by destroying a Quark, causing Toba, one of the Dominators, to become enraged. His partner, Rago, informs the Dulcian leaders that they are all to become slaves to the Dominators. The Doctor and Zoe, who had been held captive by Toba, are rescued by Cully and Jamie, and are able to capture the atomic seed capsule. Doctor Who conceals it is the Dominators ship which later explodes, destroying the Dominators and the Quarks.

(2u) THE MIND ROBBERS - To escape a lava flow, the Doctor uses the "special emergency unit" which moves the TARDIS out of time and space - out of reality itself. However, a powerful mental force lures Zoe and Jamie out of the TARDIS forcing the Doctor to venture outside to find them. They independently find themselves in a great white void being hunted by white robots. The Doctor eventually reunites with them only to find themselves in a strange forest where fiction and fairy tales become reality. After some doing, the trio finally makes its way to a ruined building and into a maze of tunnels where they finally penetrate into the heart of the labyrinth which is the control room of a benign old man in skull cap and spectacles. He is the Master of the Land and has been controlling their fate with his computer. He tells them the computer is controlled by his brain and now it is time for him to retire. He wants the Doctor to take his place. Naturally, when Doctor Who refuses, a battle of wits follows with the Doctor call up champions from Earth's fiction to defeat the Master of the Land and his servants. Doctor Who discovers that in reality, it is the computer who controls the Master. Jamie and Zoe manage to overload the machine so they all can escape.

(2w) THE KROTONS - The TARDIS lands in a bleak deserted wasteland. The Doctor, Zoe and Jamie make their way to the city of the Gonds, a primitive people in the power of the mysterious unseen Krotons and their Teaching Machines. The Krotons use the Teaching Machines to educate the Gonds - but every year, two brightest pupils enter the Krotons' space craft never to be seen again. The Doctor discovers that these pupils are drained of their mental energies and ruthlessly destroyed. Zoe and the Doctor take the tests at the Teaching Machines - and are immediately ordered to enter the Krotons' space craft. They are submitted to yet further agonizing mental tests and their unprecedented high scores re-animate the inhabitants of the craft. The Krotons are crystalline monsters who craft crash-landed on the planet of the Gonds thousands of years ago. Since then, the Krotons have waited in suspended animation while their space craft, itself a living entity, serves to educate the Gonds to a sufficient level to produce "high brains." Mental energy serves as the power for the Krotons' space craft and in Zoe and the Doctor they have found at last the "high brain" power they need to power their departure. Zoe and the Doctor escape from the Krotons, who first try to hunt them down, and then order the Gonds to hand them over. Meanwhile, Jamie enters the Krotons' craft in search of his friends. A fraction of the Gonds rebels and attacks the Krotons, not realizing that they could bring disaster to their planet. Eventually one of the Doctor's chance discoveries provides a means of destroying the Krotons. The Doctor and his friends depart, leaving the liberated Gonds to work out the problems of their new freedom.

(2x) THE SEEDS OF DEATH - At the beginning of the 21st century, Earth has become completely dependent on a revolutionary for of instantaneous travel called T-Mat, which is based on the moon. As the Doctor and his companions arrive on Earth, T-Mat mysteriously breaks down. Technicians determine the trouble to be on the moon and Commander Radnor, T-Mat's chief administrator, knows someone who still has a rocket capable of making the journey. The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe volunteer to crew an obsolete rocket and after making a hazardous landing on the moon, find the source of the problem. The moon base is in the hands of some old enemies - the Ice Warriors from Mars. It is the first step in their plans to take over Earth. The T-Mat is used to send Martian pods to all major cities in the earth's winter zones. The pods swell, burst, and emit the spores of a Martian fungus that spreads with enormous speed. It removes the oxygen from the air, converting Earth's atmosphere to that of Mars. The Doctor and his friends manage to get T-Mat back to Earth to find a rapidly worsening situation. The earth is in chaos, there are widespread food shortages, and the Martian invasion fleet is approaching the moon, by radio beam. Doctor Who discovers that water and warmth will destroy the fungus, but the Bureau of Weather Controls has been taken over by an Ice Warrior. He then arranges for a satellite to send a decoy signal that will lead the Martian fleet into the sun's orbit, and then risks his own life by T-Matting back to the moon to turn off the Martians' signal while his friends overtake the weather station and bring rain to destroy the fungus.

(2z) THE WAR GAMES - The TARDIS and its crew materialize in what appears to be a no-man's-land on a World War I battlefront in France. When the Doctor and his companions emerge from a cloud of mist, they find that they are really on another planet. It is split into time zones and a fierce war is being waged in each one. The wars are controlled by aliens, who have gathered soldiers form many periods of history, brainwashed them and put them to battle with the aim of forming an invincible army from the survivors to take over the galaxy. The Doctor is identified by the War Chief, assistant to the leader of the aliens, the War Lord, but he manages to seize the alien headquarters with the help of soldiers no longer under the aliens' control, and calls on the Time Lords for help. The Time Lords are a nearly omnipotent race with the ability to control Time and Space. Both the Doctor and the War Chief are renegade Time Lords who each stole a TARDIS and escaped. The Doctor fled to explore the universe (Time Lord policy is one of strict non-intervention) while the War Chief gave Time Lord technology to the War Lords - in particular, the SIDRAT, an inferior version of the TARDIS - which enabled the War Lords to start the war games. The Time Lords intervene, capture and execute the War Lord, return all the soldiers to their proper time zones on earth and they try the Doctor for his crimes. They find him guilty of intervention and exile him to earth after having changed his appearance. Jamie and Zoe are returned to their respective eras. *This is the first story that introduces the Time Lords, explains the Doctor's origins, and it is the last story with Patrick Troughton as Doctor Who.
