Ian and Laura announce their plans to marry but Laura grows ever more doubtful of Ian's true intentions. Peggy discovers Frank’s fraud and finds out that she could lose the pub. (2097)

Plans for Charlie's party continue. Laura continues to suspect Ian's motives. Peggy finds out what it will cost her to save the pub; Charlie is supportive and grows closer to her. Little Mo still reeling from her discovery eventually tells all to Lynne. Billy continues to try to make it up to Little Mo. Barry decides that his future lies in buying but is knocked back by his dad and Steve when he looks for a partner. (2098)

Billy gets the wrong end of the stick and thinks that the surprise party is for him. Natalie is very unsure about the pregnancy. Jim gets worried about Dot and enlists Pauline's help. It's Charlie's birthday and he is sad he is alone; he tries to impress on Mo why he needs to look for a new love and not just live with the memory of his dead wife. Mo eventually comes round. The party goes ahead, the surprise guest arrives - Charlie's brother Harry. Trevor turns up to get his wife back but she sends him packing with a thump. (2099)

Steve tests his relationship with Mel by asking her to dress to impress his clients at the E20 Club. Ian cooks a fancy meal for Laura's parents, but Laura's father, Norman is less than impressed when he finds out that Ian's bankrupt. Norman asks Laura to postpone the wedding, but she refuses, so Norman tells her he won’t be going to the wedding. Harry takes Peggy out on a first date to a restaurant and they get to know each other. Meanwhile, Barry helps Peggy by showing prospective buyers around the Vic. Little does she know that he's trying to put them off buying the pub, so that Natalie and he can stay there a little longer! (2100)

Natalie worries about Barry, who's showing more prospective buyers around the Vic. Peggy and Harry go on their second date and Phil warns Harry not mess his mum around. Peggy returns to find the Estate Agent waiting to have a quiet word. Peggy is furious with Barry when she finds out he has been putting off buyers and demands that he and Natalie move out. Mark and Winston take Ian out for his stag night. They get him drunk on tequila slammers and handcuff him to the bench in the square. The girls celebrate in style with cocktails for Laura's hen night. Everything goes well until Mel accidentally reveals to Laura that Ian told Steve about her inheritance money. Laura storms off and finds Ian drunk in the square. She calls the wedding off and leaves. (2101)

Natalie apologises to Peggy for Barry's behaviour. Barry wants to stay at the Vic longer, but it's too late - Peggy gets a call with an offer on the pub, which she accepts. Natalie demands that Barry ask Pat and Roy if they can move back in with them. Ian tries to contact Laura, but she won't answer his calls. Pat speaks to Laura and tells her that Ian really does love her. Everyone waits at the church - is there going to be a wedding? Eventually Ian and Laura talk and make-up, they rush to catch a bus and finally make it to the Town Hall in time for the wedding. (2102)

Whilst the darts team visits Brighton, Robbie embarks on a desperate search for his father. Garry also tries to catch up with his past but he's forced to take drastic action when Lynne realises he's up to his old tricks. (2103)

Peggy feels guilty when she catches Charlie’s eye as she chats with Harry. Mel tells Steve she's got some interviews. Terry agrees to let Janine take the money to the bank. Peggy agrees to go to the pictures with Harry. Asif tells Pauline she’s burning the fish. Pat helps Barry & Natalie to get settled in. Billy treats Little Mo to a drink. Anthony tells Mark Lisa is fine. Mel tells Lisa she thinks Steve is stitching her up about getting a new job. Terry's blind date arrives. Charlie delivers some flowers to Little Mo from Trevor. Janine wants to know why Terry wont tell her about the business deal. Barry asks Natalie to give him another chance to show her what he can do. Phil tells Steve he doesn't care about the new owners. Dot agrees to go to a tea dance with Jim. Phil wants to know why Peggy's selling if she feels so strongly about it. Lisa thinks a night out might do her some good. Barry offers to help out at the chippy but Pauline tells him that Asif can manage on his own. Janine thinks Terry is going into business with someone else. Mel celebrates with Mark & Lisa getting a new job. Barry becomes annoyed when asked about his interviews & asks to be left alone. Peggy tells Roy she will forgive but not forget. Asif knocks over container of oil & blames Janine. Terry is surprised to see Pauline is his blind date. Mel tells Steve she's got a job. Dot thanks Jim for walking her home & Nick turns up! Peggy is left alone reflecting on memories she goes to lock up for the last time. (2107)

Phil tells Peggy she won’t do any clearing until she sees who the new owners are. Steve gives Mel a dictapen. Jim agrees to help Dot with moving some of Nick's things. Nick tells Dot she has to stop seeing Jim or he will go. Asif owns up to Pauline about the oil going over the floor. Charlie tells Peggy that nobody knows the truth except them & to walk in to the Vic with her head held high. Billy gives Little Mo some flowers & asks her out but she suggests he goes with her to the Vic opening. Steve implies to Dot & Jim he's bought the Vic. Terry tells Pauline he wants to talk & she tells him there’s nothing to say. Harry tells Peggy & Phil that Mel & Steve are the new owners. Natalie tells Mel that she thinks Steve has bought her the Vic. Lisa tells Mark how she really wants the baby now. Steve tells Mel he’s giving her E20. Mel tells Peggy they’re not the new owners. (Continuation of 1140) Peggy is horrified to find out Sharon Watts is the new owner of the Vic. Mel tells Lisa that Steve has given her the E20 to run and Lisa admits to Mel that she's pregnant. Mark tells Lisa that he'll pretend to be the baby's father. Peggy is furious when she finds Phil and Sharon happily chatting at the Vic. (2109)

Jamie tries to tell Zoë that they're just friends but is not v. convincing. Nat calls Barry to see how his new job is going - he's in a cafe but pretends he's in an office. Barry, dressed as a chicken, knocks over a lady's shopping and falls into a pile of rubbish while trying to avoid Charlie in his cab. (2110)

Nat is confused when someone calls offering Barry a job. Dot and Jim catch Barry in his chicken outfit. Barry confides to Joanna that he's got the sack from being a chicken. Sharon accuses Peggy of sabotaging the order to the brewery. Mark tells Pauline that Lisa and him are having a baby - Pauline later tells him that she doesn't believe the baby is his. Jim owns up to the wrong order to the brewery. Sharon opens the door expecting Phil and in comes Ross!! They snog. (2111)

Robbie decides to invite Zoë along to make up the numbers. Pauline tells Lisa that she wants no part of lying to Phil about the baby. Barry gets turned down for another job. Garry overhears Mark and Pauline talking about Lisa being pregnant - he promises Mark that he'll keep it to himself but he can't help letting it slip to Nick. Mo demands they either set a date for the wedding by the end of the day, or 'sling his hook'. Natalie goes to visit Barry for lunch and she gets confused when he gets a job offer. Jamie is surprised when Zoë arrives for dinner. Beppe accidentally throws coffee over a woman in the street. Garry finally tells Lynne he wants to set a date for the wedding. Nick makes a public announcement in the Vic about Lisa being pregnant. Sonia tells Zoë to stay away from Jamie - Zoë tells her that she and Jamie slept together in Brighton. (2112)

Garry wonders if Mark is going to let Phil know about the baby, or whether he should say something to him. Zoë says that she's told Sonia that they slept together. Beppe gets the offer of a hot date and proceeds to ask everyone if they'll baby-sit Joe. Lynne agrees and he has a rather rushed date with Claire. Peggy finds out that Lisa's pregnant. Charlie is disappointed that Peggy is going to Spain to see his brother. Sharon overhears Ross on the telephone telling someone that he loves them. Lisa arrives home to find Phil waiting for her. He congratulates her on the baby. Jamie tells Sonia that he didn't sleep with Zoë. (2113)

Nick tells Dot he wants to see Ashley - Dot's not sure it's such a good idea. Natalie thinks Barry’s having an affair and decides to confront him about it. Zoë tells Kat that she slept with Jamie. Mel realises that Beppe's been lying to her about why he's been late for work - she fires him. Ross tells Sharon that he was talking to his kids the other night, and she's got to learn to trust him. Ashley arrives and agrees to stay for a while. Beppe manages to persuade Mel to give him his job back. Ross makes another secret call to his wife. Natalie surprises Barry at Joanna's café and sees him with Joanna. Barry finally admits that he's been lying to her about having a job (2114)

Sharon overhears Ross telling his kids he will be back soon and feels insecure, when he asks her for money she confesses that she only owns half the Vic. Billy tells Little Mo about his plans for a competition at the snooker club. Lisa goes to the E20 to support Mel. Ross agrees to let Steve run a poker game at the Vic and Sharon is angry when she discovers them. Paul admits to Dr T that he won the money from Jim by cheating at the poker game. Paul tries to make up with Audrey but she rejects him. Dr T tells Paul he should leave but Paul gets angry and threatens to blackmail him with something from his past. Billy sets himself up as Little Mo's manager and gets her a pay rise out of Ross. Garry confides in Beppe that he doesn't want to get married. Mel reluctantly agrees to have a stag night at the E20. Nick drains the brake fluid from Mark's bike. (2116)

Pat and Nat are pretending they have forgotten Roy's birthday. Jim has a heart to heart with Ashley and persuades him to say goodbye to Dot before he leaves. Beppe meets another girl, Kay in the Minute Mart. Nick and Ashley are reconciled when Nick tells him about his own father. Ross' mother turns up to confront Sharon about his previous flings after which he always returns to his wife. Roy, Steve, Phil and Paul sit down to a poker game in the E20 office but Barry comes in to take Roy to the pub, Paul and Steve are last in and to Phil's amusement Paul wins. Roy is delighted by his surprise party in the Vic. Ashley steals Mark's bike and crashes it into the launderette and Dr T pronounces him dead. (2117)

Mark is distressed by the events leading up to Ashley's death. Dot is trying to come to terms with the accident. Ross receives an invitation to his son's birthday party, which prompts several arguments with Sharon. The police start to ask questions about the accident. (2118)

Joe is unforgiving about the incident involving his dad and his schoolteacher. Zoë and Nick battle over the funeral. Billy continues to make the cleaning business grow. The doctor is being blackmailed by his gambling brother who is now in serious trouble. Nick’s threats to Mark finally come to a head and Mark finds out the real truth about Ashley's accident. (2119)

Ashley is buried. Paul tries to borrow money from Steve but ends up stealing from his own mother. Sharon calls it a day with Ross who returns to his family. Dot confronts Nick with knowledge of what she heard the night before. In a passionate speech she banishes him from her life. Nick leaves taken away by Charlie leaving a grief stricken Dot. (2120)

Audrey discovers that her carriage clock has gone missing. Dr Anthony Trueman is angry when he finds out that Paul stole and pawned the clock for money to bet on the races. Jim worries about Dot's mental condition. Dr Trueman visits Dot and recommends they get a psychiatric nurse to assess her. Mark and Lisa discuss what they can do to appear more like a couple and Lisa suggests they sleep together in the same room. Trevor turns up to talk to Little Mo about the divorce. (2121)

Mo chaperones the divorce meeting between Trevor and Little Mo. Laura suggests to Ian they spend her inheritance money, but Ian refuses. Laura secretly purchases 3 chip vans for Ian. Garry has food poisoning and blames it on Lynne's cooking. Audrey and the Dr return to find the B&B has been smashed up. The Dr looks for Paul but finds him beaten up. Dot almost sets the house on fire. (2122)

Dr Trueman tells Audrey that Paul wasn't responsible for the mess at the B&B. Margaret agrees to go on a date with Terry. Paul tries to do a deal with Angel & his Goon, but they give him a week to find the money he owes them. The psychiatric nurse takes Dot away to a hospital in Hertfordshire. Mark takes Lisa out for her birthday, and they have their first kiss. (2123)

Lisa regrets sleeping with Mark and tells him she can’t have a relationship with him. Audrey insists she wants to get a loan to help Anthony get his own practice. Lisa tells Mark that she’s leaving & going to her sisters. Audrey asks Phil if he’d be interested in the B&B for Peggy. Billy gets his job back with Sharon. Margaret tells Terry she’d love to see him again. Sharon drives along & stops under bridge to pick up her partner - Steve. (2124)

Zoë crosses the Square & sees Sonia with Jamie kissing. Audrey tells Anthony that Phil is interested in buying the B&B. Ian asks Laura for the two grand to refit vans. Trevor applies for the bar job & impresses Sharon & Tracy. Anthony meets Angel for the first time. Sharon is taken aback when Mel answers the phone & asks to speak to Steve. Anthony tells Phil the B&B is definitely not for sale. Angel calls in at the B&B. Steve tells Sharon he doesn’t want anyone to know he’s involved with the Vic. Mark collapses. Jamie tells Kevin that Zoë is his girlfriend. Paul wants Anthony to take out a loan; he’s only got until next evening to come up with 30K. Janine discovers that Margaret is sleeping over. Paul threatens to tell Audrey the truth about Anthony. (2125)

Marks in hospital. Angel’s henchmen bundle Paul into car. The doctor gives Mark his test results. Angel asks Paul for the money. Anthony tells Angel to leave Paul alone & shows him the package. Mark slowly opens his eyes to see Lisa at his bedside. Zoë sees Jamie with Sonia. Paul tells Anthony likes life in Walford! (2126)

Steve and Phil receive letters re trial date. Sharon asks Trevor if he'll do a 'trial' in the Vic. Dr T tells Audrey that he's lost the partnership so she will have to tell Phil the B&B is off the market. Ian tells Mel he's grateful for the money she gave to enable him to run the chip shop. Mark and Lisa arrive back from hospital. Sharon gives Trevor a job at the Vic when Mo has a go at her for employing him. Garry goes round to the Slater’s without realising Lynne has invited round Rev Lewis. Robbie tells Sonia he's expecting a cheque from his Dad. Janine pretends she has cooked the meal that Margaret has prepared. Steve refuses to help Phil put Dan inside. (2127)

Billy catches Little Mo chatting with Trevor. Sonia chats to Dr T about nursing. Janine accuses Margaret of being out for what she can. Mark kisses Lisa and she runs off. Billy finds Little Mo making food for Trevor. Robbie sees his Dad in the Vic and receives a cheque from him for ten grand. Sonia gets a job in the cafe. Kat and Zoë meet two blokes in the Vic who take them for an Indian meal. Dr T helps Paul hide some belongings in the B&B. Robbie gives Sonia a cheque for 9 grand to see her through her studies and then departs on his travels. (2128)

Billy tries to apologise to Little Mo. Audrey throws Paul out of the B&B. Pauline shows the Dan Sullivan trial headline in the Walford Gazette. Janine gets upset that Terry has given Margaret a key to the house. Mel gets a call from Barbara Owen who is trying to get hold of Steve. Janine finds a photo of Margaret and 'a man' in her handbag. Billy gets drunk in the Vic and outside he is confronted by Trevor who drags him into an alley to threaten him. Margaret tells Terry that the man in the photo is her brother who has cancer. (2129)

Natalie is having second thoughts about becoming a mother. Ian decides to open the fish & chips van for the first time at the square party. Mo is suspicious about what Zoë is hiding from her. Jim doesn't give Sonia encouragement about a career in nursing. Ian panics when he discovers that he is wanted as a witness at Dan's trial. Paul offers Asif a job selling jewellery at the party. Barry tells Natalie that he won't let her help out at the party and he sends Dr Trueman to have a chat with her. Janine tells Terry that she is moving out. Natalie tells Dr Trueman that she doesn't want the baby. (2130)

Sharon accepts Ian's offer of helping out with the party catering. Margaret tells Terry that it is for the best if Janine moves out. Ian asks Phil why he has been called as a witness. Phil wonders if Natalie’s baby is his. Zoë and Kat decide to run a lucky dip stall at the party. Mark is worried as Lisa goes off for her date with Phil. Natalie tells the doctor that she wants an abortion. Terry tells Janine to stay. Phil tells Lisa that if she is carrying his child then he wants to make another go of things with her. (2131)

Trevor asks Little Mo if she will go with him to his counselling. Natalie asks Dr Trueman to arrange a termination. Jamie tells Mark where Lisa is. Phil asks Lisa if the baby is his. Natalie is horrified when Barry announces her pregnancy to everyone. Lisa follows Mark out of the Vic & says that she loves him. Ian tells Phil that he saw Lisa in the square on the night of the shooting. (2132)

Natalie receives her appointment card for the abortion clinic but can't tell Barry. Lynne prepares for a visit from the Vicar to discuss the wedding plans. At the Slaters Little Mo spots a "rat - it turns out to be gerbils that Zoë has been looking after for Lucy. Mark suspects Paul has been stealing from the allotment. Melanie tells Steve that Jackie is worried about their mum but he is unconcerned and refuses to go and see her. Natalie confides in Pat about the abortion. Phil goes to see Ian to make sure that Dan gets sent to prison. Phil does a deal with Ian over the shooting, that if Lisa's name isn't mentioned Phil won't mention that Ian left him to die. When the Vicar arrives at the Slater's Garry tries to create a bad impression Natalie finally tells Barry she is booked in for an abortion the next day leaving him totally devastated. (2133)

Barbara tells Steve she's just discharged herself from hospital after suffering a heart attack. Natalie and Barry argue about the abortion. Natalie finally breaks down telling Barry what an unhappy childhood she had. Steve spots a photograph of Phil in his mum's house. Steve accuses his mum of child abuse. Barbara has an Angina attack but refuses to let Steve call an ambulance and throws her tablets down the toilet. Steve comes across his mum's will; she is leaving all her money to his sister and the Cats Protection League. Natalie decides to go and stay with her mother for the night. Barbara has a major heart attack during which she tries to kiss Steve. He leaves her flat an emotional wreck. (2134)

Natalie has asked Pat to meet her at the abortion clinic but asks her not to tell Barry where she is. Melanie answers a call from Jackie to say that Steve's mother has passed away. Melanie breaks the news to Steve that his mum has just died and is shocked at his lack of interest. After Roy and Barry beg, Pat discloses which abortion clinic Natalie is at Barry eventually catches up with Natalie and tells her that no matter what he still wants her and says an emotional farewell to his unborn child. Natalie goes into the clinic but emerges later saying she couldn't go through with the abortion - Barry is overjoyed. Lynne hears a report on the radio saying that a bolt of lightening has severely damaged the roof of the church where they are to be married. (2135)

Jamie is nervous and when French questions him about the gun there is a tense moment but he comes good for Phil. Steve is organising his mum's funeral. Billy is disappointed to see Little Mo and Trevor having dinner together. Sharon overhears Phil telling Steve that he and Jamie have swung the trial for him. (2136)

Mark, Lisa, Ian, Laura and Sharon go to the court. Beppe introduces Steve to Karen (his current flame). Dan tells the court he did not shoot Phil and had not seen the gun prior to his arrest. Peggy thumps Ian for leaving Phil to die, Charlie calms her down. Sharon gets Phil to confess that it was Lisa who shot him. (2137)

It is the same night as the end of ep. 1169, Phil and Sharon have a heart to heart, they kiss but Sharon says he must sleep on the sofa. Reynold sums up the evidence for the prosecution, French for the defense. Steve tells Mel he will clear out his mum's flat and be back in time for the funeral, he is still not back when the hearse draws up outside the flat. Mel is the only mourner at the graveside, meanwhile Steve ushers Karen into his mum's empty flat and they end up in a passionate clinch on the sofa. Mo is surprised when a guilty feeling Garry is affectionate with Lynne; they get him to book the wedding. The foreman of the jury delivers the verdict. (2138)

Mel tries to find out from Steve where he was, when he didn't go to his Mum's funeral. Peggy & Jamie are worried about Phil now that Dan has been found not guilty. Beppe asks Lynne to baby-sit for him. Terry tries to convince Janine not to move into her new flat. Steve is pursued by Karen but is overheard by Billy. Harry returns from Menorca & patches things up with Peggy. Dot returns to her flat & tries to organise her life. Dan begins to plot his revenge against Steve & Phil, by seeking information from Billy. (2139)

1172:
Steve & Mel talk of starting a family. Phil stays the night with Sharon. Sharon tells Phil about her silent business partner. Audrey discovers a water stain on her ceiling; Pauline suggests she gets her son to look at it. Trevor asks what is bothering Little Mo but before he can find out the ceiling of the B&B falls on them. Steve tells Karen the relationship isn't going to work out. After Phil has gone Steve finds Mel is missing. (2140)

1173:
Steve tries to find Mel and realises Billy was off sick. Phil & Steve go to confront Billy, he dashes out the back of his flat to escape them. Lynne arrives home to find Charlie sitting in the lounge in darkness. Steve & Phil return from searching to find Billy trying to get away in his van. Steve & Phil discover from Billy that Dan has got Mel, but Billy tells them he doesn't know where Dan is. Dan calls Steve & tells him to check his answer phone, but there is nothing there. Dan calls Steve again & tells him someone wants to talk to him. (2141)

1174:
Mel wakes up, Dan hearing her appears briefly in the door then goes back to the kitchen. Phil tells Sharon that Dan has taken Mel. Dan tells Mel that he doesn't want to hurt her, he just wants to get back at Steve & Phil. Mel shouts to Dan to let her go, Dan decides to call Steve, realising Phil is with him Dan tells them what he wants. (2142)

1175:
Dan has Mel bound and held hostage. Mel starts defiant, but becomes scared by Dan's threats. Dan informs Mel of Steve's affair with Karen. Mel offers him the E20 club for her release, but Dan wants revenge not the club. Dan gets impatient waiting for the money. Mel tells him Steve isn't as rich as he thinks. Steve agrees to pay all of the money (£200k). Sharon tells Phil he should help Steve save Mel and loan him the money, so Phil offers him £100k for his share in the Vic. Steve refuses. Eventually Phil agrees to lend Steve the £80k he needs at a high interest rate, with the Vic as collateral. Meanwhile, Lisa worries about Mel's whereabouts & threatens to report her missing to the police. And Beppe is pursued by Maria who has left her husband to be with him. (2143)

1176:
Steve signs the contract with Phil's solicitor and the deal is agreed. Phil wants to bring Dan down but Steve is determined not to put Mel's life in jeopardy. Lisa remains suspicious and calls Walford CID. The officers visit Steve and he is unable to take a call from Dan while they are there. Dan is angry and threatens Steve with Mel's life. Steve blames Lisa for interfering. Charlie tells Harry to be honest with Peggy, but Peggy gets the wrong end of the stick and thinks Harry has been gossiping about their (lack of) sex life. (2144)

1177:
Phil heads off with the money and a gun to do the exchange with Dan. Dan gives Phil directions, while Steve heads to the Vic to tells Sharon where Phil has gone. Phil is about to kill Dan when Mel intervenes and helps Dan at the last moment. When Phil comes round, Dan pretends to shoot him for the fun of it, and then leaves him handcuffed to the piping. Mel refuses to go to Spain with Dan but takes the £50k cash he offers her for saving his life. The officers come in for questioning. They're about to get heavy when Mel appears at his door.... Mel backs up Steve's story and the officers’ leave. Mel hides the money from Steve and confronts him about what Dan has told her. She accuses Steve of framing Dan, shooting Phil and buying the Vic. Only when Mel reveals she knows about his affair with Karen does Steve start to own up about some of the things he's done. The Slaters celebrate Lynne's birthday in the Vic and then move on to the E20. Peggy gets very drunk and Sharon bars her from the Vic. Billy lets slip that Steve signed the E20 club over as collateral. Billy shows her the papers that reveal Steve still owns the club and not Mel. Mel is livid. She chucks everyone out of the club and sets it alight. Fire engines are called and for a moment Steve believes Mel is dead. The Slater’s wedding dress fitting is a disaster, and they resort to drink. Paul tells Patrick the truth about the car accident. Lynne Slater is out celebrating her hen night at an Indian Restaurant whilst fiancé Garry is enjoying his stag night in the Vic. The other Slater sister -Belinda- arrives at the restaurant and causes a stir but her pretences soon fall after a couple of cocktails. Garry ponders the enormity of what lies ahead of him and enjoys himself immensely as a stripper called Mandy does her stuff. The episode ends with Zoë storming out of the restaurant followed by Kat after they argued over Zoë’s secret plans to go to Spain - in the heat of the moment Kat tells Zoë she is her mother. (2171)

The remainder of the hen and stag parties have merged in the Vic. The paramedics arrive on the scene. All this is too much for Zoë and she runs from the hospital. Charlie tells Garry that under the circumstances Lynne wants to postpone the wedding. Kat is brought back and lies asleep in ICU. Charlie goes home and writes the letter to Peggy for Harry and puts it through her door but she is up and opens it. Zoë goes home and packs a bag and leaves the square. (2174)

Peggy finds out that Charlie is to blame for Harry's disappearance - when she fails to contact Harry she starts to drink. Phil returns and leaves his bloodstained shirt in the laundry basket where it is later discovered by Sharon. Zoë is still missing.
