EASTENDERS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The BBC's most popular program has yet another award to add to its list of achievements. And with average weekly audiences of 20 million in Britain, it's no surprise. EastEnders is consistently winning viewers' awards, but for a soap to be voted Best Drama Series by its peers at BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Awards) is a first, and something special to celebrate. This brings EastEnders' total number of trophies to 14 and reflects this series' continuing popularity and quality since it first began in 1985.

Set in the fictitious London Borough of Walford, EastEnders is an on-going story of life in the East End and focuses on the multi-racial community who live and work in and around Albert Square. Its storylines move effortlessly between comedy and tragedy, and though it never shies away from controversial issues, it is fine family entertainment enjoyed by people of all ages. Its appeal knows no borders.
