THE FALL AND RISE OF REGINALD PERRIN

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Is Reggie Perrin going insane, or is it everyone else around him? A disillusioned office slave at Sunshine Desserts, Reginald Perrin is showing signs of cracking up. One day he just disappears, leaving his monotonous life behind him. All that is left is a neat pile of clothes on the beach.

But Reggie misses his wife Elizabeth, so in a new guise as Martin Welbourne, he remarries, gets his old job back, and life continues much as it did before-until he is sacked for being Reggie Perrin after all.

Reggie opens Grot, a shop selling useless junk. Soon Grot is a big empire. But Sunshine Desserts is crumbling; so ex-boss C.J. and all his sycophants become happy employees of Grot. Reggie thinks he's spawned a monster, and once more heads for the beach.

Reggie opens a commune, a haven from the competitive, commercial world. Setting his helpers (family, friends and C.J.) to tasks most unsuited to their characters, Reggie expects a resounding, satisfying failure. The treatment his clients receive is certainly unusual; so are the results. Again, Reggie is an enormous success. But how long can it last?
