NAUTILUS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The history of the submarine: the maverick early models, the devastating threat they presented before technological advances tracked them down, the evolution of the midget submarine, the nuclear sub and its role in the development of a new underwater industry. A story of imagination, industrial espionage, opportunism, danger and determination. A story of international rivalry and wartime savagery. And a story of dreams.

In a compelling five-part series, Nautilus descends into uncharted waters to explore the history of one of the most remarkable sea-faring vessels ever to hit the high seas. The concept of creating an underwater boat is as old as the dream of taking to the air. Aristotle, Alexander the Great and Leonardo da Vinci are believed to have considered its possibilities. This series examines how submarine inventors turned their dreams into realities, and the implications their inventions had on a world stage, as well as demonstrating how the submarine was far more than simply a weapon of war.
