PAPABILE - THE MEN WHO COULD BE POPE

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Who will be the next Pope, God's representative on earth to almost one billion Roman Catholics?

The Pope is the leader of 900 million Catholics and wields power--both religious and political--in almost every country of the world. As John Paul II enters the autumn of his pontificate, there is inevitable speculation about who will succeed him. Within the Vatican there are Cardinals who are considered "Papabile"--potential Papal candidates. But there are also powerful factions within the college of Cardinals, each of which want to influence the next Conclave to choose their man. This show goes behind the scenes to discover how a Pope is elected and seeks to predict who might emerge as Pope for the 21st Century.
