3. Steve Leonard deals with a calf struggling for breath. Keith Leonard is hoping to pass his final exams at Liverpool's Veterinary College& Joe Inglis has to treat a Golden Retriever with a possible tumour. (13)

4. Trude Mostue visits her family in Norway. Emma Milne performs a cow caesarian while waiting to hear if she got her dream job. Her boyfriend, Joe Inglis, treats an injured fox in Devon. (14)

5. Emma Milne discovers if she has got the job she wanted in Bristol, Trude Mostue becomes attached to a dying dog and Hannah Pollard tries to save an elderly Yorkshire terrier. (15)

8. Keith Leonard, Steve's younger brother, has finally qualified after 5 years of intensive study. Hannah Pollard starts her new job at Southend and meets a lovesick chinchilla. Love is in the air for Steve Leonard. (18)

9. Alison Lee and Craig Beck are a week from their wedding, but Alison's more concerned about a Yorkshire Terrier with cancer, and Craig helps a German Shepherd with breathing problems. (19)

10. In the last of the current series, Alison and Craig's big day finally arrives, Trude is faced with a cat with a limp tail, and Alison solves Pugsley the puppy's uncomfortable problem. (20)

 

SERIES 3
1. NEW BEGINNINGS - The vets return in this new series, which shows how they are getting on 18 months into their career. Joe has to remove an abscess from a snake, Trude removes a lump from a pot bellied pig, and Emma has to operate on a German Shepherd dog. (21)

2. A FAMILY AFFAIR - All Leonard Brothers followed father's footsteps to become vets. In Wales Keith has been hired as minder of two goats; Siamese kitten presents Steve with the most unusual case of his career. (22)

3. NEW FACES - Joe Inglis struggles to save a rabbit with an abscess. Trainee horse specialist Sam has a case of poisoning to deal with. Hannah plans a makeover for herself and her dog Hesther. (23)

4. BIRTHDAYS - It is Trude's 30th birthday, and she plans a wild day out with sister Leanne. Sam deals with a pregnant German Shepherd. Newly wed Alison and Craig's cat is taken ill. (24)

5. HIGHS AND LOWS - Trude Mostue is faced with a Gerbil and its very worried 9 year old owner, Steve Leonard fights to save the life of a pup, Keith Leonard deals with a tricky lambing and Rosie the pig who's been knocked down by a car. (25)

7. HOLDING ON - A bemused budgie and an ailing Alsatian keep Trude busy, while Sam and her colleagues wait for the surgery's grey mare to give birth. (27)

8. GOOD TIMES AND BAD - Steve treats a sick Iguana while Fiona struggles to save the life of a Staffordshire Bull terrier that's eaten rat poison. Keith has an important meeting with his boss. (28)

9. FULL SPEED AHEAD - Emma fits a dog with wheels, Joe mends a gerbil's broken leg, Craig deals with a dog who's swallowed a ball, Alison operates to save a gun dog, Joe and Emma set off on their stag & hen weekends. (29)

1. BREAKING AND ENTERIMNG - In Norfolk, Craig has an emergency on his hands. Connie White's cat Borris is having breathing problems. In Bristol, Trude has to castrate Pepper the guinea pig. Meanwhile, Alison has to solve Jock the Westie's problem. (31)

2. A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING - Joe and Emma Inglis return to wk after their honeymoon. Joe amputates a fawn's leg, and Emma faces a dilemma over treating an elderly cat. Sam Robinson deals with a guinea pig's mystery pregnancy and a show pony's tail amputation. (32)

3. ALL THINGS WEIRD AND WONDERFUL - Keith Leonard is called out to a collapsed cow, and Fiona Green treats an injured woodpecker. Keith's elder brother Steve prepares a group of hedgehogs for re-release. (33)

4. UNDER PRESSURE - Trude fights to save the lives of a litter of kittens who have lost large amounts of blood due to flea bites. Alison works against the clock operating on a cat with severe internal injuries, while Craig treats a rabbit with an ulcer. (34)

5. BONNIE AND CLYDE - Fiona has been on call all night. She has to deal wit a cat hit by a bus. Trude sees an itchy terrier. Keith has to give transfusion to a cow with cut udder. (35)

2. HORSES FOR COURSES - Tom Leonard is called to a cow with chronic diarrhoea, Steve Leonard has tough decision over Popeye, cat with multiple fractures. Sam Robinson has to operate on a foal's legs. (56)

3. STORMY WEATHER - Fiona Green is faced with Hurricane Floyd in the Bahamas; Trude Mostue tries to save a German Shepherd dog; Maria Lowie meets a Collie with a mysterious lump. (57)

9. WANDERLUST - Steve Leonard plans to travel the world, his brother Keith treats Boris the Monitor Lizard, and his other brother Tom blood tests 450 sheep. (63)

10. FAMILY AFFAIRS - Trude Mostue meets a lion at Longleat Safari Park, and Maria Lowe treats a puppy with a salivating problem. Emma Inglis's skills are put to the test, and husband Joe leaves his practice. (64)

 

SERIES 7
1. One of the Family - Vets In Practice returns with a splash when Trude Mostue’s first patient is a koi carp choking on another fish. It’s an
unusual case, so Trude has to improvise by bubbling the anaesthetic through a bucket of water before she can attempt to extract the carp’s spiny lunch – without Trude or the nurse succumbing to the anaesthetic themselves. Eventually, using a pair of tweezers,Trude reaches into the carp’s mouth and pulls out the little fish. (65)

2. Water Babies - Tom Leonard is called out to attend to a ewe that has gone into remature labour. Both lambs die and there’s a real danger that the farmer will lose the mother too. Sheep are notorious for losing the will to live, but Tom knows that the best way to save her is to find a lamb for her to adopt.The farmer’s wife advertises for one at the local livestock
market and waits to see if she gets a response. Meanwhile,Tom’s brother, Steve, has decided to take a year off from full-time vetting to do some travelling and fulfil some of his other ambitions. To support himself, he is doing some freelance locum work and today he’s been called out to see an animal he’s never come across before; a llama, which he quickly discovers has very sharp teeth. (66)

3. Lovesick- Heavily pregnant vet Maria Lowe is anxious to leave work on time to pick up her toddler, Jack, from nursery. But first, she must deal with two serious cases. Sweep, a Border Collie, needs treatment for severe shock after being electrocuted on an electric cattle fence.Then DJ, a Springer spaniel, needs an operation to remove the three stones
he’s eaten – but finding them in the abdomen proves to be more of a problem than Maria first thought. (67)

4. New Kid on the Block - At the Swanbridge Veterinary Hospital in Hull, Sam Robinson (who is new to Vets In Practice) has not one, but two
emergencies to deal with.Ten-month-old Tigger has been hit by a car and has suffered a broken jaw and swollen eye. Tigger is in so much shock that even just putting him on a drip is traumatic for both cat and vet. While Tigger settles down, Sam’s next patient is waiting for immediate treatment. Sasha, a whippet, has run into a barbed-wire fence whilst
chasing rabbits and has a huge gash in her side. (68)

5. Eaten Alive! - Steve Leonard is on his first day at a new locum position in Widnes and he doesn’t exactly get off to a good start. First, he arrives late. Then, after being promised "nothing out of the ordinary", he is confronted with Ig, the bearded dragon, who has been attacked by his own food – a cricket. (69)

6. Foreign Bodies - After living in Britain for 10 years, Norwegian vet Trude Mostue has finally decided to put down roots in England. She has seen a flat she would like to buy, but before she can turn her attention to domestic matters, she is faced with one of the most difficult experiences of her veterinary career. Desmond, a baby rabbit, has the largest abscess Trude has ever seen. If she is to save Desmond’s life,Trude has no choice but to hold her breath and remove all the poisonous, stinking pus. (70)

7. Fighting Spirit - Trude Mostue has a very early appointment at Longleat Safari Park with a lion cub which needs to be inoculated. Unfortunately, the cub’s mother has other ideas. After her eventful trip to Longleat,Trude is glad to return to her small animal surgery. Waiting to see her is Desmond the rabbit. Ongoing problems with his abscess have flared up yet again, creating further complications, and she’s faced with some tough decisions. (71)

8. Change of Heart - Sam Robinson has been offered a new job working at a hospital for small animals in Nottingham. She’s not looking forward to telling her current boss, John Levinson, and her friend and colleague, Sally Kingsley. (72)

9. Brothers In Arms - Tom, Steve and Keith Leonard all followed in their father’s footsteps to pursue careers as vets.Tom, the eldest, is a farm vet with a steady job in rural Lancashire where he values the ongoing contact with regular clients. Steve and Keith get work where and when they can as locum vets, which allows them greater freedom to pursue their travel
interests. (73)

10. Well Bred - A builder rushes in a stray cat which has been left for dead in a rubbish skip.Trude finds a microchip under his skin, enabling her to locate his owners and discover that his name is Bertie. Bertie’s owners arrive to be reunited with their beloved cat, but they can’t take him home as he has a badly dislocated hip. (74)

SERIES 8
1. RUNAWAYS - 2001 is going to be a critical year for Trude Mostue and her heavily pregnant best friend, Maria Lowe. The fellow Norwegians are hoping to turn their dream of setting up their own practice together into a reality. Most of their free time is spent planning the new business venture but, for now, they are both still working at their respective West Country practices. (75)

2. NEW ARRIVALS - Trude is broody. Her best friend, Maria Lowe, is heavily pregnant and Trude would love to start a family of her own. But Trude’s only recently moved in with her boyfriend, Brian, and she and Maria are planning to open their own practice. So for the time being, she’s decided to settle for kittens. (76)

3. COMINGS & GOINGS - Sally Kingsley has been a qualified vet for less than a year, and has decided that temporary locum work is what she
wants to do for now. Her first job is in Guisely, near her home of Leeds. Fudge, a cat with a mysterious puncture wound on his belly, is waiting for her to figure out exactly what’s wrong with him. Keith Leonard has been working as a locum at a number of practices while he saves money to go travelling. His plans are firming up and he’s decided to join an RSPCA officer friend in Kenya. (77)

4. HOME SWEET HOME - Fiona Green and her boyfriend Nick Allinson arrive back in the UK after 14 months in the Bahamas. Their first stop is Nick’s family home, where Fiona is reunited with her faithful hound, Dottie. Then it’s straight back to work at her old practice, the Nine Mile Surgery, in Reading. (78)

5. PRACTICE RUN - Emma’s boss at the Folly Gardens practice in Tewkesbury is going on holiday and has decided to leave her and Joe
in charge for two weeks. It will provide them with the perfect opportunity to see how they manage on their own. Their first case is a cat called Tiggy who’s been badly injured in a road accident and has a shattered bone in his leg. Emma delegates Joe to perform orthopaedic surgery but, before surgery can begin, there’s a complication. (79)

6. AGAINST ALL ODDS - Emma’s boss at the Folly Gardens practice in Tewkesbury is going on holiday and has decided to leave her and Joe
in charge for two weeks. It will provide them with the perfect opportunity to see how they manage on their own. 7. WORKING GIRLS - Nearly 80 years after the first female vet became a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, Emma Inglis, Fiona Green and Sally Kingsley reflect on how far women have come within the profession. Fiona Green has returned to Hampshire after spending a year working in the Bahamas. She’s on call over the weekend - a routine
requirement in veterinary work that she has never learned to enjoy. (81)

8. BEST LAID PLANS - Emma and Joe visit the Bath & West Agricultural Show which rekindles Joe’s interest in large animal work. Back at work in Carterton, near Oxford, he has to face up to his fear of snakes when Stuart Lodge brings in his 13-foot python to be weighed. At the Folly Gardens surgery in Tewkesbury, Emma’s patient is Poppy, a 12-year-old cat, who needs an operation on her injured knee cap. (82)

9. AS ONE DOOR CLOSES - Keith Leonard is working in picturesque Cumbria as a locum – his last job before he leaves England and his last
chance to earn some extra money. His next job will be working on a voluntary basis for the Kenyan equivalent of the RSPCA in Africa. Meanwhile in Cumbria, awaiting his attention is Rolo, a lovable nine-day-old pet lamb with a very painful abscess in his foot. (83)

10. PARTNERS - For Trude and Maria, Monday is the big day on Monday – when they finally open their new practice to the public. Beforehand, however, they decide to throw a big party. Friends and relatives come over from Norway and the two vets take the opportunity to wear traditional Norwegian costumes, which also attracts the attention of the press. (84)

SERIES 9
1. Settling In - There are plenty of clients for Trude Mostue and Maria Lowe to see at their new practice.Trude gets a fright when Smokey the cat comes in with ticks and one jumps onto her.Trude’s next patient is Shandy, a 12-year-old dog with a suspected tumour on his leg. A biopsy shows that it’s malignant - Trude operates but she’s worried that Shandy might not be able to cope with the anaesthetic. Owner Pamela Winstone, whose husband died from cancer some months ago, is worried the tumour may spread. She’s never been parted from Shandy and there’s an emotional goodbye before the operation. (85)

2. Early Days - It’s been two months since Emma announced that her marriage to Joe Inglis was over. The house that’s been their home for two years has been sold and the day has arrived for them to pack up their belongings and go their separate ways. One of most difficult decisions they’ve had to make is what to do with their beloved dogs, Pan and Badger, who have been with them since they were puppies. For now, they will go with Emma who’s moved into a house with her sister,Alice, leaving Joe to look for suitable accommodation. (86)

3. Old Friends - Emma Milne is busy working hard at her new practice in Cheltenham but, just when she thinks she’s in for a quiet day, an emergency case arrives. An elderly Jack Russell, Jilly, has been taken ill. Jilly has a recurring womb infection and, as her own vet is three hours away, Emma has to step in and perform an emergency operation to remove the infected uterus. Surgery goes well, but that’s only the first hurdle for this poorly little dog. It will be a couple of weeks before they know for sure if she will survive. (87)

4. New Horizons - After a year of hard work, Keith Leonard is leaving to work as a volunteer for the Kenyan equivalent of the RSPCA. They haven’t had a vet before so Keith will be worth his weight in gold. Ashley Hayland, who works for the charity, collects Keith and his friend, ex-veterinary nurse and RSPCA officer Fiona Moore, from the airport and whisks them
off to the house that will be their new home.The bonus is it has palm trees in the garden and a white sandy beach just a stone’s throw away. But Keith can look forward to some back-breaking work before he even starts to tackle any animal cases. Part of this new assignment in Mombasa will be to help build the surgery where he will treat the strays and abandoned animals. (88)

5. All In A Day's Work - Joe Inglis’ day is full of domestic pets – he has seven vaccinations in the morning, followed by routine surgery and a
budgie with an over-grown beak that needs trimming. For Mike Sandiford, a typical day is spent on farms in Wiltshire with large animals. This morning he’s visiting a local farm in Malmesbury to test its 180 cows for tuberculosis.The disease is on the increase in this country, particularly in
the South West, so cattle in the region are tested annually. (89)

6. On The Attack- Trude Mostue’s day gets off to a difficult start at the Viking Veterinary Practice in Bristol, when a Rottweiler called Rolfe is brought in with a sore paw. The trouble is, he’s not keen to have it looked at and Trude’s only hope of examining his foot is to sedate him. Easier said than done… (90)

7.Vets In Crisis - The foot and mouth virus is rampaging through the British countryside for the first time in more than 30 years, throwing the lives of farmers across the country into turmoil. Joe Inglis and Tom Leonard have answered the call of the Ministry and gone to help fight the outbreak. (91)

8. Under Pressure - Maria Lowe has been on call over the weekend at the practice in Bristol and has admitted two patients, Honey the terrier and a stray budgie. Honey has been run over by a car and has a badly damaged hip.Trude’s x-ray reveals that it has come out of its socket, leaving a chip of bone loose. She is going to have to open it up, remove the bone fragment and cut the head off Honey’s thigh bone. It’s an operation she’s never performed before, so she’s relying on Maria being around for moral support. (92)

9. Foreign Bodies - At her Hampshire practice, Fiona Green is presented with one of the most puzzling cases of her career. A14-monthold dog called Thai has been brought in by her worried owner, Wendy Thompson.The puppy is being sick repeatedly and unable to keep anything down, so Fiona decides to keep him in for observation and run some blood tests. 10. SERIES 10
1. Close To Home - At Viking Vets in Bristol, partners Trude Mostue and Maria Lowe have an unusual situation. Maria’s first patient is Linda,
the cat, who belongs to Trude and her fiancé, Howard Thomas. She is bleeding heavily from a mystery wound in her side and they rush her to the surgery. Once she has Linda under sedation, Maria has a shock – a huge abscess gushes yellow pus. It looks like a dog bite and the poor cat is in a very bad way. Maria injects a special liquid which shows up white on X-rays and reveals whether the infection has reached any vital organs. If the abdominal wall has been breached, Linda could have only hours to live. (95)

2. Born To Be Wild - It is now 15 months since Emma and Joe Inglis went their separate ways and they have both moved on with their lives. Joe is now the proud owner of a motorbike and working at the Jackson’s surgery in Carterton. His latest patient is a very sick Jack Russell terrier called Mickey, whose owner can’t bear to be without him. Joe runs tests and finds a tumour in Mickey’s abdomen. The only hope is to operate, but the prognosis depends on which organ has been affected, whether the cancer has spread and whether Mickey can recover from the surgery. (96)

3. Mind and Body - Fiona Green treats an extremely nervous Swedish Walhund who is not living up to his name of Conan the Barbarian.
There are drugs to help him relax but he needs a course of behavioural exercises to help deal with his fear of car travel and meeting other dogs. (97)

4. Collision Course - “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dog in so much pain,” says Maria Lowe as she treats an emergency patient on her day off.
Flint is the victim of a freak accident, having collided with his owner’s other dog, Lady, during a late-night walk. Lady broke her neck and was killed outright. But how bad are Flint’s injuries? Meanwhile,Trude is examining Puppet, an 11-year-old Labrador/Staffordshire cross with a lump on her stomach which Trude suspects may be the equivalent of breast cancer.
She immediately removes the lump, which is found to be less attached to its underlying tissue than feared, and Puppet makes a promising recovery. Trude and Puppet’s owner feel more hopeful, but they must wait for the lab results. (98)

5. Summertime Blues - Joe Inglis has a fight on his hands in the Cotswolds as flesh-eating maggots threaten the life of Daisy the rabbit. Flies lay their eggs in the rabbit’s mucky rear end and the hot weather does the rest. They can appear in an instant, and catch an unsuspecting owner, like Eric Pearce, off-guard.The sight makes Joe squirm, but he must extract all the
maggots. Daisy has several big open wounds, but Joe is hopeful she will pull through. (99)

6. Duty Calls - Sally Kingsley is starting her new job at the Chiltern Equine Centre in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. Her new boss, Sarah Randall, knows how difficult first days can be, so she eases Sally in gently, giving her a variety of cases to treat: a foal who needs the dressing on his leg changing, a liver biopsy and a mare who has injured her leg showjumping. (100)

7. Family Favourites - For Norwegian pals Maria and Trude, the strain of running Viking Vets is beginning to show.Trude has to be away from
the surgery for another long stretch, leaving Maria holding the fort once again. It’s a particularly busy week and the working mother has a family celebration to prepare for. (101)

8. A Tale Of The Unexpected - Trude and Maria both find themselves treating cats with a mystery illness. Crunchie has been brought in by owner Jane Mansfield. He is no stranger to the practice and is one of Maria’s more difficult patients.Trude’s patient, Buck, is suffering from an abnormally high temperature, a terrible eye infection and weight loss.Trude is concerned he may have contracted Feline Leukaemia, a highly infectious disease. Unfortunately, if his blood tests prove positive, he is not the only one in danger – owners John and Julie also fear for Buck’s sister, Fizz. (102)

9. Attachments - Emma is in London, to observe a specialist surgeon at the Royal College perform an operation on one of her patients, a young dog named Pippa. Pippa is incontinent and her bladder is in the wrong position. Despite five years in practice, this is one operation Emma has never attempted or even seen before but it is essential if Pippa is to lead a normal life. (103)

10. All Change - In Bristol,Trude has announced that she is leaving Viking Vets.There are four weeks left until she actually goes, but for now it’s business as usual. Her first case of the day is one that will test both her veterinary and client care skills.Twelveyear- old Karl Whittaker has brought in his sick pet chicken, Onion. Karl is well known to Trude; sadly, she had to put his rat to sleep just a few months ago and she’s hoping for a happier outcome this time. (104)
