GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE USAGE OF BBC MATERIALS
The Licensee's site
- use of BBC material is restricted to sites run by the Licensee.
- the site may not be branded "BBC". Any credit or reference
to the BBC other than as co-producer of the Program shall be approved
by the BBC in advance.
- Licensee shall not use the BBC logo without the approval of
the BBC. If the Licensee wishes to use the BBC logo a trade mark
license may be required.
- the Licensee is not allowed to set up a site that is intended
to allow users to review or criticize BBC Program material without
the BBC's approval. This includes chat lines and bulletin boards.
- the Licensee may not generate revenue (advertising, subscription
sponsorship or other transactions) directly or indirectly from
the use of the BBC material on the site without the BBC's permission.
Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing the indirect generation
of revenue from the Licensee's sites using BBC material but excluding
the direct generation of revenue from the use of BBC material
shall be deemed permitted.
- a warning against downloading, duplicating or any other unauthorized
use must appear clearly and legibly on-screen on any site including
BBC material.
Use of material and approvals
- Licensee shall identify to BBC any BBC material (to include
without limitation extracts from the Program any portion of the
accompanying narration or soundtrack transcript, synopsis and
stills) which the Licensee wishes to use for online advertising
and promotional purposes so that BBC can approve the use and verify
that BBC has obtained the necessary rights.
- the Licensee's use of BBC material will be non-exclusive and
will be limited, in the case of advertising and promotional purposes,
to no more than two video clips (of no more than one minute in
duration each), two audio extracts (of no more than one minute
in duration each) and five stills per episode up to five episodes
and thereafter, the Licensee will be limited to the use of one
video clip, one audio extract and two stills per episode up to
thirteen episodes. Any additional use of BBC material must be
approved by BBC.
- all BBC material which is approved by the BBC must be featured
in its entirety. The Licensee may not edit, add to, alter or delete
any of the BBC material authorized by the BBC for inclusion within
the site. The Licensee may include its own narrative description
of the Program.
Acknowledgments
- explicit reference must accompany the clips/stills referring
to the forthcoming transmission on the Licensee's channel, including
dates and times of transmission.
- the Licensee will include such copyright or trademark notices
as the BBC requests on the Licensee's site.
Duration of Use
- the BBC material may only be used to advertise and promote the
Program before transmission and to support it during and after
transmission.
- the BBC material comprising excerpts from the Program must
be removed from the Licensee's licensees site immediately following
final transmission of the last episode of a series. Support materials
such as transcripts or additional background material may be retained
for up to six months after final transmission of the last episode
of the series. If there is a gap of more than six months between
repeat transmissions of the Program or series, BBC material should
be removed while the Program is not being broadcast by the Licensee.
Re-broadcasting
These guidelines only apply to advertising and promotional
purposes in connection with programs and exclude any right to re-transmit
the Program on the Internet which would require the prior written
agreement of BBC.
